Since 1998, Dr. Alvaro Garcia, M.D. has been focused on preventing cervical cancer. In coordinationation with global aid programs, he has conducted several studies on various topics concerning cervical cancer, which have been published in international journals. He currently heads the pathology clinic at Bertha Calderon Hospital in Managua, Nicaragua and coaches doctors in the area of colposcopy. He has participated with various international organizations such as PATH, WHO and PAHO. His current role in the country is advisor to the Ministry of Health (MOH) and active participant with MOVICANCER in setting national standards for cancer control.
